  1. I tryed fixing one of mine after many failures it went bang with a burning smell of rubber, I figured the spring had weakened as nothing inside was damaged or leaking could have been one of those mistakes worth a life
  2. just for future referance never take a regulator or line that has been USED on acetylene or propane and interchange them you might find yourself caught in a violent reaction
  3. try it and see how many clinkers are produced by burning it, some coal i have seen in the past makes way too many clinkers to use effectively
  4. hey that worked i managed to get a couple of good welds then i tryed to weld some small but thick pieces and it didnt quite turn out thanks woody
  5. How did you know what I was dreaming last night? the outside of the shop is as neat as the inside IMO
  6. hahaha, I always knew you had class sam where did you find that fancy bar-b-q
  7. Well your smarter then I am I knew it had something to do with the scale i will try again today and see what i can do
  8. good stuff sam, i started when i was about 14 making throwing knives out of lawnmower blades then i upgraded to a sink with a house fan i also had cement pillar post with a carpenters hammer then i stopped for about 4 years and bought a kmg and it sat for a year and a half unused the basics are like a drop of water in the ocean, once you figure something out you realize there is alot more room to swim I tend not to think about it the ocean is too vast, haha
  9. I have gotten a good weld once or twice but I dont know HOW I managed to do it people mention that you must have a reducing atmosphere in order to weld but usually they refer to how to do it with a coal forge with my blown gas unit i just crank the fuel and leave the air the same as it was running I have no problem getting the heat getting swirls or movement on the area I want to weld. I heat to yellow flux and return to the forge wait for the heat then i try to tap the two together I think my technique must be flawed in the scarf although I try my best or my hammering or maybe i am not using enough flux usually i add quite a bit maybe it is burning off? I have looked though my books and all the info on the web i can find but still i fail to get consistant welds
  10. nice work sam every project is getting better and better by the moment, how many years you been at it now?
  11. If your close to me I have some Precut pieces of coil spring you can have

  13. I decided awhile ago I wanted to build a air hammer so i bought a compressor it runs at 10.3 cfm 135 psi 12.4 100 psi i want to run a small/medium sized hammer i was told 2 x 12 inch cylinder would work fine I have none of the parts yet for it though because im not 100% sure what to get or where even to get it im hoping someone informed might be able to help me out a bit thanks
  14. I always liked the name it has right now I must have walked past your shop a couple 100 times i would probley add chris pook blacksmith to the name
  15. i will admit the base was a lonely piece of scrap under my work bench i didnt even cut it lol my flower wasnt quite upright so i tacked it on thanks for the comments, I have a "Bowl" its more like a plate right now that is waiting in the garage for me to transform it so its back to work
  16. Thanks sam, I try I just look and think I want to see in, though the layers similar to a flower in its own way then i try to line everything up in a basic line kind of you dont really notice it but i cut a hook into one of the petals so it would block one side today i started making a bowl out of 18 gauge steel it looks like a plate right now tomorrow maybe i can make it more like a bowl and maybe i will leave it or try for a helmet,
  17. I see thanks guys it took me maybe 20 mins to make I used a migwelder to weld it i havent made much yet and still dont have proper tongs lol but i work after work everyday after i finish working for about 12 hours after this post im out to the shop I work quick and sloppy but at least i have a good time i really like doing the work itself so thats what counts to me I have been doing this for a month maybe a bit more or less now, something like that
  18. I made this one today for my grandma its ok im a newbie but i figure you need to work to learn so why not any suggestions to be honest i did not plan it out at all and it just came together as i put it together with a small amount of thought
