  1. The Anvil wasn´t used by me so far. Still placed in a friends workshop i had no oppurtunity to forge. I´ve only got a ford fiesta and the trunk isn´t really made for a heavy babe like this. So i cleaned it and still wait till i get green light for a fitting car to get it to my workshop. (and enough manpower to lift ;)) Edges have different radii but i think this fit for me quite well.
  2. @Fluidsteel: Thanks and here are requested pictures from my other anvil. I did some cleaning yesterday. 3 hours later the face was in a condition i can work with. Time and many students left many scars on that one but there are still good edges. The Crack isn´t so bad at all. It´s a cast anvil wtih welded face so the chance to break a horn is quite small. The anvil was build in 1954 by Sichelschmidt und Schlasse The before Picture After some cleaning and Detail of Manufacture Sorry for bad picture quality, photos were taken in workshop with few light source. Greetz, Hannes
  3. Hi! stuarthesmith: Thanks! My Camera is pretty crap but i was also surprised how the photos got. I guess the model did most of the job;) Yesteryearforge and Stephen Olivio: Thanks. TechnicusJoe: Thanks for that Info. I just thought it had to be a Bohemian pattern. Coming from south germany the anvils i have seen are quite all the same form. Square Horn, swage foot and lateral fore-anvil and two holes. Sometimes the fore-anvil is missing but still the same form. Mhm.... South German rare Anvil seems like great success too. I will take further Pictures when i´m in the Workshop next time. Haven´t seen any marks but 1918 so far. perhaps underneath the colour. Greetz, Hannes
  4. Hi! These are my four Vises i got so far. My first one was this 115mm/4,5" Leg Vise. I got it for free because it was burried in the old workshop and rusted. It was quite fun giving back some live to the vise. The spring was broke and the only springsteel i had on hand was a 4mm spring wire. It works for 2 Years for now. The vise is my favourite because the jaws fit perfect, screw box and screw are fine too. This is my second Vise. I needed a assembling vise for my Workbench( which is also my desk) I searched ebay for it and found this one. Triumph sounded familiar and DRGM means it was built from 1891 and 1945. Normaly items from this age are pretty sturdy. After a bit of cleaning i had a reliable vise. This one is a 85mm leg vise i bought for 35€/47Us Dollars from ebay. Its light and simple to carry around. Jaws are good too but the screw is a bit ramshackled. And last Saturday i got this one for 50€/67Us Dollars. The Jaws are 150mm/5,9". It´s a monster compared to my other ones. It´s still disjointed and i have to reforge the spring and get the thick layers of paint off it. The Screw is quite worn out and i guess i have to saw it off, turn around and weld it. A friend sayd he knows a guy who may sell his 200mm/7,8" Vise. Well i don´t need it so far, but having a vise which is so heavy that even a long time blacksmith had his problems hauling from the cellar would sure be a cool thing. Greetz, Hannes
  5. Hi! that´s my cute baby. It´s a 78Kg /172lb Anvil with very clean edges. I know that the anvil was forged 1918. But i have no idea what shop did it. The anvil has a nice story, it was my former Boss´s first tool and he started his whole career with it (in best days there were 18 employees) When i did my apprenticeship as metal engineer it was a bit burried in the workshop and i dug it out and started my hobby. My Boss quit work because of age. The Workshop led by his son now moved to another location. I had about 98 hours overtime so i asked him if it´s okay if i get his anvil and his forge for it. So the anvil is mine now! I like the size pretty much for small jobs, like making tongs, chisels and other tools. And the shape is in a perfect condition. Sound is nice too... no cracks or else. The square hole is 20mm/0,78" and i built some tools for it last weeks. I have another anvil too, a 173KG/381lb South german form, but it is still in a workshop because it´s a bit too heavy for my car ( which is also permanently full with rusted tools and parts). Pictures of it will follow when the big one arrives my workshop. Greetz, Hannes
  6. Hi! My name is Hannes and i come from Freising/ Bavaria. I came to this site because of my leg vise addiction. After a short visit i found so many topics that answered many questions i could not find so far. Like repairing leg vise screw box, making anvil stands and so on. I did my apprenticeship as Metal Engineer some while ago and now doing my master. In my apprenticeship i found a small 171lb bohemian form forged Anvil and a semi mobile forge in the workshop. So i started blacksmithing as a hobby and had a lot of fun. Both the anvil and the forge are mine now. Short time ago i cleaned out my parents' shed and made place for my babys. Also a workbench followed and most projects i have can now be realized when i visit my parents. Some time ago i got a about 381 lb cast anvil with welded face. South german form. Beauty! I'm most interested in making tools and restoring old tools like my leg vise. Forging tongs in different sizes and forms is now my main attention; I guess you can learn alot while doing. I am looking forward reading more interesting topics on this site! Hannes
