No purpose for the hole, I just wanted to punch one (learning experience). It was design as you forge and I got a little lost, no plans for a lanyard, but I may wrap the handle.

The profile just appeared and I have trouble with the grind, I have a Jet grinder
JET 8" Bench Grinder with Multitool Belt Finishing Tool - eBay (item 170194110081 end time Mar-15-08 07:32:16 PDT)

I did one twist and flattened it out 11&1/2 inchs finish length.

I tried to do a texture thing on the blade with a ball peen hammer but didn't come out so well, but I learned a lot.

    Thanks for your interest

  2. I've yet to make a knife, but I spent all day today on this spike knife and it's ready for heat treat so I think I'll have a completed knife soon.

It's a little different, I never liked that spike head so I pounded it out and just let it go.

Learned alot on this. Tell me what you think.

I was up at Siskiyou summit last week and there's a pile of plates and spikes with tie clips also, I picked up some spikes but will have to go back to get some clips, didn't know about them.
I think they have quit rail service over the summit.

I'm happy to be able to share. Been collecting for over 30 yrs., a lot of stuff is pretty ordinary tho. You're welcome here anytime. (long drive)

Thanks that makes sense, that one has been a puzzle to me. I think I have another Slater's hammer my wife got it at a sale with a matching nail puller, I'll have to go find it and see what the hammer looks like.

  5. Heres some
The bottom ones are barn stormer goggles
The top ones are black metal screen.
The little ones are blue glass and screen, used for jewelry circa 1900.

There are better pics of the nevada patterns in the gallery.
    What is their specific use?
    Thanks Mark

irnsrgn described it as a "backing out punch" but I don't know what that refers to or its specific use.

The cobblers hammer is hand forged, t's quite a big upset on the round end, fasinated me because I'm tring to do some upsetting and isn't as easy as I thought.
