I would be open to round/ square bars that I could flatten or forge weld together then flatten.

I'm trying to get a hold of some wrought iron. I'm looking for a sheet maybe 1/16 thick 4 by 8 or so. Anybody know where to get some?

Do you harden and ht the tang when doing a sword? Might seem like a stupid question but I've seen video of people hardening just the blade, does this give any advantages? Thanks!

If it were me I would cut the cylinder in half length wise then make a tapering pie and weld it together. Hope that made sense.

Agreed, I know it sucks but nothing beats a proper tool. I've spent more money than I care to think about trying to get by with a tool that might work. You could always make one.

A gentlemen contacted me about making a pipe hawk, purelyfor tobacco use I'm sure lol, anyways I suggested he make one out of a ball end hammer. Then he asked if it was safe to smoke out off, because he had heard that some metals are bad for you. Any ideas on if the hammer woud be "healthy" to use?

I once saw a video on youtube, can't find it anymore, of a man building a large copper cauldron. And at the end he was polishing it with what looked like a slurry of fine sand and water. I really wish I could find that video it was fantastic.

There was a guy at work that was just walking buy a guy using a wire wheel and one of those metal needles of doom flew in his mouth and he swallowed it. Just food for thought.

14thc is what I was thinking. What I'm trying to do is have something more appropriate that my welded forge table and hand crank blower :). Doesn't have to be a period example just pass the oh I can see that being used rule. I saw a nice set up somewhere, it was a simple box and clay set up with a double lung bellow. Just looking for any examples to get the creative juices flowing.

My family and I are medieval reactors and I was thinking of setting up a forge for our next demo so I was wondering if anybody has any pics or ideas for a medieval demo setup.

Preferably traveling setups that you would see in camps.

Is there a way to determin the correct size slit for the hole you are trying to get...such as I want a 1/2 by 1/2" square hole so ill cut a slit 5/8" big? Forgive my ignoranc.

Is messaging stampman threw the boards the best way of getting in contact with him about having a touch mark made?

Thanks, ill see if I can't get out to the shop and take somme pics, I don't see any marks to tell me what brand it is but I think the guy who sold it to me said it was an hammer and arms? Not sure its been a while, there have been only a couple if times the dents have gotten in the way, so I figures refinishing would make it work better.

Ok so the horn of my anvil has some small dings and your typical abuse on it and I was thinking of re finishing it. Horns are typically softer than the face right? They arnt plated or anything right?

Safety glasses are the most important thing! They are a must, if u have ever had a little piece of metal in ur eye u can agree. After that keep it simple like everyone says. Find a basic hammer that is comfortable, doubt u can swing 4lb hammer long, get some long stock, tongs are really nice, and play. U will discover what u will "need" as you go along. Unless of course u have unlimited funds:D

Now that I think about it when I have seen people temper with a tourch is usualy when I see them quench. I use the oven when I do it ( the wife loves it when I put my projects in the oven lol).

I'm refering to once they have achived let's say 400 Degrees some then let it cool naturaly and some say quench it again in let's say water to freeze the steel at that temper. I have looked a while and haven't found anything that really said what the difference was so I have turned to the wealth of knowledge that is the forum :D
