To me, "Negative Space", is that which is present between my mother-in-law's ears.

I am the manager of a Lumber Yard. When my daughter was little, she used to tell everyone "my daddy cuts logs."

Still a LOT to learn. I could have drawn it out more, as the backbone is quite thick. But what the hey, it's my first.

Before I try and make anything of any meaning, I am trying to re-learn how to get metal to do what you want. Messed up the first one REAL BAD. This one came out pretty cool!

Be carefull using a plain old "LIGHT DIMMER". Most are not designed for INDUCTIVE LOADS. You can get ceiling fan speed controls that will work a lot better. They are designed for inductive loads. Another good controller is a sewing machine pedal. I use one on my dremel. And make sure you are not using a capacitor start motor.

Well, after I got all my chores done today, I figured I would at least see if I remembered how to get the fire lit. I actually got it on the first try. Was up and running in about 5 minutes. So I figured I would at least get something hot. Remember, I have not stood at this thing since I was about 14 years old. (35 years ago!) I grabed a piece of 3/8 rebar from the scrap rack and stuck it in the fire. Got all KNOTTED UP so to speak! I turned off the fan, turned to walk away and heard a loud POP! Could not believe it. She musta had a small crack already and the first re-light was too much for it. Now I am bummbed. Gotta try and find a way to mend it. Any ideas?

Well, I did a little research last night. This is coppied from the "OLD WOOD-WORKING MACHINES" web site. "Silver Manufacturing Co. was created when Silver & Deming Manufacturing Co. split in 1890 to form The Deming Company (manufacturers of brass pumps, hydraulic machinery and well supplies) and The Silver Manufacturing Company. A. R. Silver and his sons were the main interest in this new company. An 1890's newspaper article about the company states that in that year a new factory was built about that time and the company made feed cutters, saw gummers, wagonmakers tools, butchers tools, blacksmiths tools, etc. In 1954 Silver merged back into Deming Pumps, which was later acquired by the Crane Co. in 1961. For a timeline of the various companies related to this one, see the entry for Dole, Silver & Deming. Silver's products included blacksmithing equipment, wheelwright equipment, woodworking machinery, and specialty items for the rural and agricultural market, such as sausage grinders and corn shellers." And it appears the "SALEM O." on the blower is Salem, Ohio.

At first I thought it had been cut, but when I got it home today, I looked closely and you can tell it has snapped. Very jaged, and signs of a bend on one edge. I do have a piece of 1 1/4 solid hex in the shop that I could weld on. Wont be FACTORY, but will work.

Well, she's Finlay home. Hasn't seen fire in over 30 years. My dad taught me the basics on this thing, then I grew up and moved out. Well, I Finlay have the room to get to know her again. The only markings are "THE SILVER MFG. CO. SALEM O USA." and what looks to be "956" across the top. Any body know anything about this? Also have several tongs, hardies, one flattening hammer sans handle, and a leg vise with a broken leg. I guess it's now a knee vise? I thought about totally re-doing it and giving it a fresh coat of paint, but then decided to leave the "AMBIANCE" alone, and just free up the blower, and give it some new belts.

Forgot the "multi purpose" part of the post, so I'll do it my 2nd official post. I manage a Lumber yard. Have for about 18 years. But for some reason, Metal is my passion. I do mostly welding and fabricating for friends, as a hobby, not a bussiness. Just bought a new place in the country back in may, with a 40 x 60 shop that I call my PLAYHOUSE.
