  1. Got to thank Scott, John, amd Jack for the help and guidance on making these. I've only been doing this for 3 months worth of Thursday afternoons and the occasional Saturday mornings. The one with the handle is 2lb. And the wedge shaped head is 3. I was shooting for a 4lb. Hammer so I guess I should make another. :-)

  2. Great way to start! We used to carpool to go to SWABA meetings when I lived in Ohio; it was a two hour drive for us and so sharing the cost and the travel time was a big help. (Actually it ran us longer as we stopped at a fleamarket on the way to buy post vises and pie, both cheap and good!)

BTW I don't know if you are involved in Scouting but there is a Blacksmithing Merit badge.
  3. I've held that knife. We were at the Choo Choo Forge when I first saw it. It is a great well made blade and he made it fit like it was factory stamped. I was going to throw away an old folder of mine. Not any more. I'll just wait until he's done with the damascus billet he's got in his truck and "borrow" a piece. Shhhh. :-)

  4. It's from an antique hay rake tine. I really like the blue effect from normalizing. It has a inch and a 1/2 blade and I may epoxy a leather wrap on for a handle. Should make a good all purpose knife. I may even cut the handle down and make a pocket sheath for it.

  5. Wood handles are best as they absorb shock that would normally transfer to your wrist and elbow. Metal and fiberglass don't do this near as well. I make garden tools to order. For friends and family members.if you need something in particular let me know. I use tool steel for all garden tools. My hoes and adzs can shape mild rock.

  6. Make 1 or2 of each to show off to customers. Then offer to make custom for them slightly longer taller different handle etc. Chefs use magnetic strips on walls not blocks. Damp knives don't go in blocks and blocks won't make it with health inspectors. Now a custom carry box for transporting knives from home to work are a good seller for career butchers and chefs. I make custom boxes for butchers here in Chattanooga. Message me and I'll send a photo.
