  1. Howdy folks. i recently acquired a Bailey's No.4 post drill. I am researching to find pics of one to see what the missing pieces look like. The hand crank is missing and the feed actuator arm is broken top and bottom. The cam is still there so i can imagine what the arm looks like to repair it. the MFGis unmistakeable it is clearly marked "Bailey's No. 4" then either "II & B Co." or "LL",in lower case, "& B Co.". I have all of the gears and spindles free except for the feed, the acme thread is frozen solid, I'm still working on getting that free. Any information or photos or ideas to search would be greatly apperciated. I did find a "Bailey's No. 5" which was designed to run on a line shaft. Thanks again for any information. Dave

  4. We are building a forge to use at school. Have concidered the pros and cons of coal and gas. we dont want to cut any holes in the building for hoods and with winter coming on cant really see forging out side much. we have natural gas plumbed in for the heaters and could split off from that line for a couple of forges. Any ideas on LPG over Nat gas? Any advice or comments would be welcomed.
  5. I rebuilt a vice with striped threads. I bought some used scaffold jacks/screws, used a band saw and cut the old female threads off and trimmed down the Ears of the "nut" welded the first pass on the old end with Nickle rod then used 7014 to attach the nut to the old end or box. I cut the "all thread" male side off of the end with the slide bar chamfored the new "all thread" which was cut to the same length as the old male end, made the first pass on the cast iron piece with the slide bar with nickle then 7014. Ground the welds down to look neat and clean. Just be sure the screw of the jack will fit inside the "box" end. Around Oklahoma the Jacks run about $25.00 new or about $15.00 used. I have using my vice for about a year and have had no problems. any questions E-Mail me at Waylon63@aol.com
  6. I named mine after the creek that runs on the north side of the farm "Otter Creek Forge" and I have on the logo a river otter and the phrase "From the Fires of Otter Creek Forge
