  1. I like 1080 for blades. If you have a way to cut them, tractor plow discs can yield enough 1080 for many knives. Tractor dealers and ag repair shops often have a stack of them around. Old junkyards are great too - cars used to have a lot more steel in them. Trunk and hood springs, sway bars, and torsion bars are all good sources for high carbon round bar.
  2. I'd have to say 3# straight peen, belt grinder, and pair of vise grips. Fly press isn't a power tool, but I'd take one over any grinder.
  3. My post vise is mounted along with a table and tong rack on a semi rim. It has wheels mounted just off of the ground when the base sits flat. When tipped back, it can be dragged by the wheels. My heavy welding table has steel wheels, and I use pipe rollers to move the treadle hammer.
