Sounds like it's my kind of knife. Should put up pics of some forge finished I have made recently, haven't posted for a while.

Make sure the steel is annealed first if you do this and is not a work hardening one. Otherwise it will be a PITA to work with.

But if you could make one of these it would look fantastic for a display piece or even user.

Lucky kid, my dad tried to tell me to stop wasting my time learning to make blades.

Brass is actually copper and zinc mixed together, while bronze is copper and tin.

It all looks fantastic, but can you actually grip the bottom of the handle. Looks a bit wide in the pics, also is it going to be a user.

Look at the SVORD Peasant knife, made me think about making a friction folder. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Sounds like a bone blade, usually i THINK they were one piece like stone knives. just do a wrapped habdle.

Mostly I just use old leaf springs BUT they can be a pain if you want to make a smaller knife, all that drawing out can take a while to get it a useable thickness.

Most stainless is harder to forge into a blade because you need a proper heat treat oven specially made for things like knives and gun parts or to send it to a company who do it profesionaly telling them what rockwell hardness you want it and what kind of steel it is.

Or you can just get something like D2 or 52100, basically very similar to stainless but can be hardened in the forge and tempered in oven.

I really have to try my hand at one of those these days. Just need to make some tools for it and get the hang of forge welding.

Sounds like the handle you want would probably be good for a Bastard, also has another name and think it might be

Blade is somewhere usually around 3 feet, handle is long enough for one or two hands respectively.

It is a cross between a longsword and a broadsword, hence the name a Bastard sword.

Looks good, usually use leaf springs myself but lately have been using the coil springs. Think I might be making my blades a bit thinner and wider than you however. I am also using my bench grinder to put a finger grove then a flat section then start the bevel. 

Am making one where it only holds the heat for about 10 seconds before going black. Blade is about 200mm long and 2-3mm wide.

to hang it from a hook.

Did a demo Day for my old school a while back at the club, the kids loved seeing a partly forged blade. Just lucky I had one when they asked about it. They also liked seeing me hot punch a piece of metal and what it looked like still rough before cleaning it up.
