I can find no markings on it although the body is covered with a heavy layer of black paint. I bought it at auction, maybe I should snap some pics...

You can get 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry isle of most groceries. I use it and it works just fine. With charcoal make sure you have a real deep fire so that excess oxygen is burned off before it reaches your stock. Tap lightly. Don't whang on the metal or you will drive off the molten metal along with your scale and flux. The metal available at Farm Fleet can be a bit fussy for getting a decent weld. If you have a metal dealer or welding shop near by I would say that either would be a better and cheaper place to get stock.

I got one really nice blower off eBay. Paid slightly less than premium price for it.
I got another one at a real bargain price. It's a piece of junk.
I have learned to appreciate hands-on buying. You know what you're getting. And like Bog said, the shipping is a lot cheaper.

I ain`t blacksmithed in the winter yet but in the early morginings it ahs been pretty cold so I been wearing long sleeves. I will wear layers so when i get ever thing warm i can shed layers as I need to. Hopefully I get my shop finshed before it gets winter here .

I'm new to this whole thing and have been looking up blacksmithing info for quite sometime now and i was wondering if this might be a passable beginning forge for me to build?

well the reason for the clutter is cause I was just testing the forge .and I ain`t got my blacksmith shop done yet . I `am going to get smaller gloves or no gloves just ain`t had a chance to get smaller gloves yet .
