  1. I recently was given an anvil. It was sitting in a buddy of mine's barn. It is an old 150lb ferriers anvil that one of the previous owner fill the hallow with lead so no it probably weighs about 200-250lbs. It is about 2-3 feet from hoen to the other end. It is not with out its problems though. The typical area you would work in has been worked som much that their is a baseball size divet that is about 1/4 of an inch deep. At the base of the horn is where one of the previous owner did all his host cuts and ther are some lines there also. Now I was wondering if it is worth my time to try to grind the anvil flat or weld on a new face? Would it just be better to leave the divit and work closer to the hardie? I am open to all suggestions. thank you.

  9. my forge is about 4 wide and 8 inches long. i was really wonder if it is ther heat or the flames that get rid of the impurities. The real problem is that the black smoke worries my father. i forge outside in my drive way . my dad is worried about the smoke hurting my lungs i told him that if i stay on the right side of the wind i will be fine because i don't breath in the smoke but he is still worried as any fother would be. so if i could make like a double boiler so the fire doesn't reach the coal but the heat does. if you have any other suggestion that would be awsome.

  18. I am busy all weekend in SC till late Sunday afternoon (Maybe back by 2 or 3) so I can give you a call when I get back but i am not sure if there will be much time.
  19. I thank you solvarr for being lenient with my huge mistake. We were talking about fuel for the forge and I was leaning towards gas. I was thinking gas because I can make a simple solid fuel forge by myself with relative ease and with a low cost but I am not so confident about making my own gas forge. I would rather make a gas forge with someone that has experience with gas forges (ei yourself). This is impart due to the fact that my parents would worry if I made my own gas forge, they would worry about me making it wrong and blowing up the house or myself. to quelsh their fears I think it would be best that you and I make a gas forge. Thank you very very much agin for you leniency.
  20. thank you very much for your advice i will defiently ude it
