  1. Hello,I am David, an old ex boilermaker from Tasmania. I still have to get my smithy sorted out,and build a gas forge to put in it,but I have lots of ideas in my head(I really should start putting them on paper),so I want to get started as soon as I can. No particular genre,(I sound like an artist already),just anything that takes my fancy and that I can possibly combine with wood.Should be fun. All the best .....David.
  2. Hello everyone,my name is David,I live in Tasmania(the island at the bottom of Australia). I spent 20 years as a steel fabricator/welder,but for the last 15 years I have been working for an engine component manufacturer making engine bearings.I learned some blacksmithing skills from an old Italian guy I worked with 30 years ago,he was brilliant, there was nothing he couldnt do, especially when it came to heat treatment. Now I would like to combine forging and woodworking as a hobby.I havent swung a hammer for ages so it will be a fun learning curve.Hopefully I will be able to come up to the standard of work I have seen on this forum. All the best David.
