hello, im new ti the forms and have already got some good info. i have recently up graded my forge from a small charcoal grill with a pot in it to a real forge and a hand crank blower off craigslist ive been having a hard time starting it. any suggestions? do i start with one or the other? also i got some coal and coke from the guy but cant tell the difference. thanks for the help daniel

i dont know if there is a difference. ive been told coke bourns hotter. i dont know first hand. still setting up new unit i got. ive also been told coal turns into coke. you have your fire going with coke and the coal around it gets hot and turns into coke. hope that helps :)

I like it. i usually shape and flatten while its red and when it starts going more black i straiten and lightly work out dings. just make sure not to let it get too cooled off.

Well, not sure this will help, and i see it's been a while since you wrote. We just bought one also and it turned fine except would hang up at one spot. We unbolted the two halves of the case and found a few teeth on meshing gears had broken off and the pieces were wedged between the opposing gear, thus causing it to bind up. We cleaned the broken pieces out and it now turns freely. Now were cleaning up the inside before we bolt it all back together. Appears it will work fine. We will need to add clean gear grease, not sure how much it is supposed to hold, or the particular weight however. anyone have any ideas on this? thanks.
