Get them red hot and tuck them in aq material that keeps air away. Pearlite, ashes and a host of other things will work. The main thing is a slow cool down.

Latest Update: I am at home and mom is giving a shot at her first night on her own since she fell. Healing has gone very well. Now it's a matter of exercise to regain the full use of her hand. Thanks again for all your kind thoughts.

Glad to hear that you are healing up. I will keep you on the list for sure.

After a day and a half of R&R I'm headed back down to mom's place. Shouldn't be too long until she is up and running and I can stay home. Thanks to all who have expressed good wishes!

Update on Mom. I am home for a couple days while a cousin stays with Mom. She is healing fast and nearly has the use of the hand she skinned up back. A bit more PT and healing and she will be up and running well. I will be going back Saturday morning to stay a while longer while she finishes healing up. Thanks to all who have been keeping her in their prayers!

Not much good as a weapon? Tell that to the enemies of the Franks who tried to dodge those!

I love it! That lad has skill and the drive to make good use of it!

Well I can't address this from the large side being 5 ' 8" and 145 pounds. But a 2 or 2.5 hammer is my favorite. If you get your heats right there isn't a need to go huge unless you are working larger stock.

That finished up very nicely!

Nice looking knives! A bit more polish and finish work wouldn't hurt. But nothing wrong with what I see. Keep on hammering!

Check out the information given on heavy metals in the stickies. Paw Paw Wilson was a very experienced and well known smith who died from complications of heavy metal poisoning. I DEEPLY regret that I never met him for I have found the things he wrote to be truly inspiring to me as I was learning to blacksmith. Please don't become the fondly remembered New Guy.

For bone handles I fill the marrow cavity with epoxy and sawdust. While it is still not set I insert the tang.
