  1. Good start. I use Faststone image viewer for renaming and resizing. I tried briquettes also, I tell you it is better to use plain wood if you don't have access to charcoal or coal/coke. http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDownload.htm
  2. Thanks for giving me research for the next few days. I did not realize the difference. I was thinking of a dimmer switch, similar to ones that are installed in homes to control lighting and fans. I am still uncertain if it is actually a rheostat or an autotransformer. I have always heard them called rheostats. I love learning and AC is one of my weak areas, so thanks for pointing this out. I did find a formula for figuring out the pulley size and rpms. Drive Pulley diameter / driven pulley diameter * input RPM = Output RPM
  3. Could a simple rheostat fix the problem? Would it cause loss of performance, or a heat build up in the circuit?
  4. Here is my first attempt at a spike knife. I put the twist in it with two adjustable wrenches, I really need to buy a vise. I finished it with an angle grinder and a Dremel.
  5. I picked up a two foot section from our local steel scrap yard. Also found plenty of spikes, coil and leaf springs, a few old files and a large piece of 1/4 inch plate for about $35. I did find some decent coal on the tracks not too long ago.
