Not sure if it was an anvil in it's past life, but it certainly could be decent anvil now. Turn it on edge and make a nice stand underneath to help with the mass and I am sure you'd get years of use out of it. If ya know someone with a water-jet machine you might even be able to machine it into a swage block. Lot's of options there!

I've been trying to find out about this event in MI and only have a little infotmation via the MABA website and the local government of grayling it looks like it might be a decent evert for a beginner like myself to attend, but I was wondering if anyone on this site has been and what I should expect to see/gain from this event.... i.e Tailgates, demos or just blacksmiths selling wares.

Just an option, but I would save that saw blade for something else in the future and perhaps get a piece of 1/8" sheet steel for a table top. Randy McDaniel has a great blue print for a forge table and fire pot in the book a blacksmith primer. I just used some scrap parts I had laying around for my forge table and it's worked out well so far. I am using a brake disc from my truck's last brake job and a stainless steel cabinet door as the table which is supported by wood screwed to a stand.

But if you have the ability to weld I would just get some 1/4 or 3/8 plate and weld up a fire pot and replace the brake drum.

I hope to build a setup like Randy's blue print this winter once I get my shop in order to use a chimney.

Got an old bike laying around? You can use the chain, sprockets, and pedals for the gearing, then build a box and fan out of wood and mount the drive sprocket to the fan and there ya have a hand crank blower.

The better question is... Did you go to the auction and if so what did it sell for? I would've guessed it was a typo and it was 150lbs.

Finally got the time to complete the build with the blower stand and forge table for my drum forge setup.

The base of the table is an old server rack that I attached some wood planks to and then I found an old stainless steel door at the scrap yard to hold the coal. I added the wheels from a donor lawn mower so I can move it around with ease. I am still able to use the adjustable height on the wheels so I can level the table out once it's in place. I took the tractor supply exhaust flap idea and used it on my ash dump as well.

Now I just need to get some time to use it! I think all together I might have 20 to 30$ in on the table and 50$ for the blower.

Do a search on Touchmarks. There are quite a few posts with some decent methods to make your own, or purchase one from a company.

I believe he's referring to a tapered wheel spindle for a car.
