  1. Hello to all, I was at a auction all day waiting to try to get a very nice 150lb anvil, but was out bid

It was stamped, U.S. in large letters and some other writing on the side. Did I miss a good one or should I have kept on bidding, It went for $400, it looks like a Hay Budden?

I didnt do too bad though I bought the 2 leg vises for $5 each, one has 5.5" jaws and weighs 100lbs! and 3 pair of tongs for $20

Any info on that brand, were they a Hardware brand from Hay Budden?

    thanks Jeff

  2. Here is a pic of my 606 Columbian 6" vise with swivel base it is huge and heavy, I am currently cleaning it, and it is all taken apart for repainting.

Also a pic of an oldie I picked up a few days back it is a Champion forge and blower, some special type of vise, really neat!!

    Thanks Jeff

    Hello to all,
I have an upcomming local auction the 11th and there is a huge anvil listed, pics of it are on a 4x4 skid, I am guessing it to be aroung 200-250lbs???
It looks like it has Trenton feet on it, but it is missing part of the face plate, would this be a good contender to be fixed or reparied?
Only get to see it the night of the auction! and possibly hope to own it?

    thanks Jeff

    Hello to all,

I just got another new toy Sunday night, a craigslist score! A very nice Peter Wright Farrier anvil 126 lbs, and it is

marked very well, in great shape, has a nice patina of moss and rust, which I think it is awesome the way it is.

My question is that it is marked to the left of the Peter wright logo, with a made for some one special?

Was a farrier pattern anvil by Peter wright special order, or to have your name stamped on the side extra,

I see nothing different about this other than it has horn clip, the horn I think might be swelled?

I read the extra marking: ED made for CHICAGO

    Just curious

    thanks Jeff
  5. Hello again and thanks for the replys guys,

This bick has a pritchel hole in the top and a small hardy hole, I didnt get any pictures of them, but it is really clean and nice shape!

I was wondering, if I can use this bickiron/anvil in the hardy hole on my 250lber soderfers, it has 1 1/4" hardy hole.

Will it damage the hardy hole or split the tail off of the anvil? Is it meant to be used in the top on an actual stump by itself?

And I was curiuos about value/worth, because of what my dad paid for them, he just buys when he finds me tools!!

    thanks again Jeff

  6. Thanks for the advise I plan on making blades for now,
and I am lucky enough to have my dad, that works at Johnson Gas Appliance, here in Cedar Rapids Iowa, so I can get what ever I need for making another forge!

    thanks Jeff

  7. Hello to all, I recenlty accuired a nice little Hay Budden it weighs 52 pounds, date is 1918. What is it worth?

Reason for asking is, I have a guy that wants to trade and anvil for a 155lb post vice , but the vice had the jaws re-worked basicly some welding done to the jaws and brackets.

What is fair market price for a budden of this size?? I am in Iowa anvils are scarce here too.

I didnt sand this previous owner did!

  8. Hello to all I finally got me a gas forge and I was curious as to what the height is recommeded for the forge to be at is there a special height or just what feels good to your back? I still have to make a stand for it.

    thanks Jeff

  9. Welcome to the site, I think you sholud get the anvil for yourself!! I have 2 already, and they are excellent anvils,

I have a line on another 100lb Kohlswa on auction in 2 weeks, Have the prices went up or down on Kohlswa's I am in Iowa, anvils still seem pretty scarce here. No matter what brand.

    Thanks Jeff
