  1. Hello to all, I have not been on the site in a while.

But I  just picked up this sweet Lakeside anvil today,  weighs right at 105lbs. I am wanting to get a manufacture date if possible.

Looks to be like new condition, rings loud and clear and has an excellent rebound., still have to clean it up.

Serial number is 153123  Lakeside stamped on it.

  2. Hello to all, I just acquired this 75lb anvil in mint condition. It is marked BBARD with line underneath. and 75 on the right side.  And serial number is 34248 on the front left foot/ any thoughts??

I first was thinking it might be a Hibbard Spencer Bartlet brand made by Trenton?  Has the hollow oval in the base. Neat little anvil  paid $160 for it.

  3. Thanks for the replys,

Both vises are 40" tall, the 6" Columbian is marked well on the mounting  bracket and satmped 1914 on the front jaw.

So far I have not cleaned anymore on the Peter Wright?  but it does say,  Patented solid box, I will look for more markings soon

In the top pictures the Vise on the left is the Columbian, on the right is the new  PW,

How common are the larger jawed vises

    thanks Jeff

  5. Hi to all,

I just got a new toy, it is a 7 1/4" jaw Post vise weighs  right at 145lbs.

I  was scraping the grease and dirt off of it, before I wire brush it,

And on it I  found it says "Solid Box Patented"  is this a Peter Wright Post Vise?

    Any Ideas on the values?

Also in the pic is my 6" Columbian weighs 100lbs  for comparison,  both are in excellent shape

  7. Here is my new 150# Columbian anvil all cleaned up.

I have had this old Viking creamer stand, that I am thinking of mounting it to.

Any thought on cast iron stands?

It is very heavy and is right at 1/4" plus thick all over top is even thicker??

There is a nice raised "C" cast on the bottom of the stand,  I think they were made for one another!

My 100lb Columbian vise isleaning next to it

  8. Well thanks for the info, I did get the anvil, I just got it home weighed it,  and posting now.

Weight is 150lbs or so on my old scale,  it is 27" long, and rings just like my 250lb sodefer, rebound is excellent!!

And it is a beauty, for $300, the  stump weighs as much as the anvil!

My last question is how thick are the face plates on these Columbian anvils??

  9. Hello,  I have not been on here in a while, but I have a question on a anvil.

I am attending an auction tomorrow  in hopes to purchase a Columbian anvil.

In the listing  it states it is a,  Anvil Model C-26”,  26" long and as pictured, it looks to be in really great shape. maybe 150 lbs??

Are Columbians cast tool steel like Sweedish anvils or like Vulcan's?

I was reading the Anvil reviews earlier but still I am curious.

  10. Thanks for all of the info that is very helpful, I like to know how old thnigs are, how many people had it before me, Kind of cool!

On the horn repair or build up can I just use my wire welder or do I need to get some special rods with a stick welder?.

I was also wondering the horn is wrought Iron? Can weld another hunk of metal in there then gring it down?

    thanks Jeff

  11. Hello to all,

I just got home from the auction today and wire brushed off this beauty, it is stamped 103 on the side. Serial number is 21748 on right front foot, with a L or a K on the left side
I was guessing it a Trenton or Arm & Hammer before I got it home, but there is a square stamped on the side and all I can make out is CHICAGO in the bottom of the box.

Here are some pics. I paid $85 for it, rings loud as my Sodefers & Kohlswa, & excellent rebound!!

I am curious for the date made, and who made it, and any Ideas on the horn can I heat it up and shape it back??
