time for me to ask a dumb question, what and where is this quad state I keep reading about?
-
i have a similar effct on my muscules, but my face has appearently aged.
-
twice in on week I've been refered to as my wifes daddy. now she does look like she's 12, but these people, total strangers asked if she was my daughter. appearently my kids, the stresses of life and my time at the forge combined have aged me terribly.lol I'm not even 30 yet. it wouldn't be so bad but, like I'm sure your wifes do, my wife won't let me forget about it.

$225.00 for both. I think I'll take that.
thats a good deal, I'ld jump on it. -

you should buy the hornless one, and let me comeby and get the russian one. lol. actually looks like both are a good price. get em both. and if you find you only need one of them, give me a shout ill be there soon to discuss removal of the other one.

you make a good point, but I still; stad behind my original "second that emotion"
while it might not be feasable to have enough members to actually have this event happen, I still think it is a good idea. -
Does that make this better than a Trenton?? If the ring determines the quality of an anvil, then RR track must be the best anvils around!!
"an anvil doesn't have to look like a "London Pattern" to be a serviceable anvil";I know about the frustration of not finding it.. Persevere, improvise adapt and overcome. Your anvil will find you!
Your right the ring has nothing to do with it being a servicable anvil, as youmight already be aware my anvil is a RR coupler. it works great! while I know full well a "london pattern" anvil is not a requirement to have a servicable anvil, I want one. until I get one I have a great anvil in my RR coupler.
as for the ring, I was just curious how well it rings, being a good size chuck of steel. of course the ring has nothing to do with the quality of an anvil, atleast not by itself, there are many other factors involved, like composition, damage, chains, ect ect.
nice anvil, and I could still use one of those. :D -
I second that emotion! or at the very least a few regional conferencees. It seems like Iforgeiron has developed into an ABANA like group. we should definately all get together. just let me know when and where!!

Actually salt raises water's boiling temp making it a faster quenchant.
Frosty the Lucky.
frosty it sounds like he was saying that the salt, while allowing for a faster quench, will form a light layer on the metal and that layer of salt will act to lubricate the project for drfiting.
***edited*** see, nevermind, just ignore me. -
ok you got my attention! Mommy I want one!! please!!! lol with as high and hard as he is tossing the molen metal I would imagine after hitting the wall and then falling back down that the metal has solidified enough to be as harmful as welding sparks. like welding sparks the falling showers of sparks will not be "safe" they are definately safer than having molten iron thrown at you directly.

I could use one of those. looks great, how;s the ring?

nice hammer, wish I had one of those. all of my hammers have handles. I cant afford one of the big ones

redwings. lol I got a pair they are great! I got mine for free. when I worked for my local cable company they sent me to get a pair on the company dime. I was supposed to pay anything over $125. they never charged me for my part of it. so I got a expensive pair of "metal free" steel toed boots. I have no idea what the toe box was made of but it wasn't metal.

It works fine so far but I have not 'used' it much except screwing around seeing what it'll do on some scrap steel. The refractory material is the key, one could shape it anyway they want using almost anything as a frame. A .50 cal or 40mm ammo can comes to mind!!
I have acouple of those and thought of that too. I even have a few 30 gallon fuel oil barrels and some washing maching and dryer tubs -

I've found several cross peen hammers at the bix box hardware stores. you know home depot and the like. even walmart carries the occasional cross peen hammer.
unfortunatly they all need more work on the face that ussually looks terrible -
thats the plan, not answer the door and watch with a loaded firearm and phone for 911 handy. I've not seen them in a week and a half, so I'm waiting.

ever since my original shop was ransacked and all of my power tools stolen I have put up cameras and I keep my 9mm and AR-15 nearby. I have an uncle who is a scrapper and a friend who is as well so when I have scrap these two get a call and the first one here get the gold so to speak. anyone else comign on my property I view as someone looking to steal from me. I have had scrap metal visable on my property for years even before I started smithing, no one ever asked if they could have ot or buy it. now once a week I get a guy(always one the same 4 guys) asking if a certain car is scrap. they always come asking when one of my two cars is gone. I've had my house broken into and my shop too, all in the last year. I think these "scrappers" are trying to find me not at home. too bad for them.

I've never had issues with one of these torches until I bought the one I'm using now. the only way Ican get it to light is to turn it on, then back off and as the gas is slowly coming to a stop light it. then if I turn it up too high it flames out. Too high seems to be any size flame that is usable. I feel your pain.

I've been talking with you through e-mail. I'm just down 85 in Winder.
Some how I knew you would be the first to reply...lol -
just curious who is in my area. I'm in the dalton, GA area. Is anyone near me, perhaps in calhoun, dalton, chatsworth, jasper, ellijay, ringgold, summerville, trion, or maybe eastridge TN chattanooga TN, or Cleveland TN.
Is there anyone in any of these areas or close by. I would like to find time to meet some of you guys(or gals) if any of you are in my area. -
Spiders brown recluse and black widows. Mice and milk snakes. Mice like to build nests with the door insulation of my gas fprge. I'm half decent throwing a chisel. Surprised myself and a couple of mice.
now that you mention mice and their nests, I've had a mouse build a nest, get this, inside the tuyere of my solid fuel forge. I went to crank up the heat the other day and I noticed my fan wouldn't turn. i reached in an turned it by mand a time or two and it started right up. then I saw there was still not very much air flow. I took the fan off and saw the pipe was full of little mouse nesting fluff. I've made sure I fire up that thing once a week now that I now it;s prime realestate for critters -
whre can I find one of those drill bits?
Help with new forge?

can you put an air gate the the blower it self, if not then put the air gate as close the the front of the blower as you can. just my 2 cents.
