  1. Thanks for all the comments horseshoe, I got the idea for the dragon from the part which is the head,it came off an old plow I pulled out of a field. I'll have to check my notes but I think I was well over 400 hrs to build it.

Thanks for the great feedback! @horseshoe 182- the thighs began with an old oxygen cylinder cut in half, then formed 11ga plate to add muscles. The knees and calves are sculpted from flat bar and and plate- in the same way I created the body. I added 2 progress shots and 1 detail shot (that's all I have). The color is just gun blue and lacquer.
  3. The feet were sculpted by fullering down pipe segments, welding them to various sized solid balls then forging the toenails out of 1/2"x 1.5" flat bar- and tons of grinding!
  4. Later in the construction, the body is filling out- then hours of grinding!
  5. Beginning phase of building the dragon sculpture. It started with the head piece which came off an old plow. After I got a mental image of what the body would look like I framed it out with 1/2" square bar and then formed 11ga infill panels.

Thanks! Actually they are mounted on the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore
  7. Underside of head. Mostly made from 11ga and 16ga sheet stock. I made the rivets out of bronze rod on the lathe
  8. Close up of head showing hand blown glass eye that lights up
  9. Commision for an armor plated swordfish sculpture

This sculpture is approx 7' tall at the wing tips. Mostly 1/4", 1/8" plate, solid bar and pipe with some found objects.

    wing detail

Detail of the wing. I first shaped the bronze plate, then built up feathers with welds and carved details in with die grinders and various burs.
  12. Pair of bronze wings fabricated from 1/8" bronze plate, not castings.
