Well today i learned that 1.32 gallons is 5 liters; I bought one of those mini kegs of Heineken....will drink contents, then use the can for a quench tank or something.

I remember in grade school in the early 70s they taught the metric system; I learned to use metric distances in the Army, and had to have both metric and standard in my toolboxes, but i still drink my coffee by the quart

Can't find it, but just do a search on Youtube, it should come up, its about 44 minutes long.

Unfortunately, in this universe, Clausing Model 1500s afaik do not have interchangeable gears; in the alternate reality, the old Atlas i sold many years ago could probably be refitted to make metric threads. But in that alternate reality, would I want to?

I watched a video yesterday of the history of the Ka-Bar company; their cutlers were using similar hammers.

I have had that prybar along with its brother for about 25 years:) It was formerly used prior to WW2 for tunnels above Pearl Harbor. One of these days i might get around to straightening it.

There is a large junk pile on our land, donated by "helpful" strangers over the years; i have found some potentially useful items so far. Yesterday I dug out this old truck axle and a piece of hard surface blade from a dozer or grader. I have been planning to make a leveling blade arrangement for my yard mower, so the blade is perfect for that project, while the axle will make hammers and drifts. Good score!

 I use to use an old excavator hammer bit for an anvil; now it is the base for the power hammer i am building . It was free.

Welcome, I passed through New bern on the way to go fishing many times while stationed at Fort Bragg in the 80s. As was said, throwing a hand grenade is not all that, unless you drop it while throwing. I earned an Expert badge in Grenade, so I may have a bit of perspective. As to your blacksmithing goals, they should be achievable, with the help of many of the experts on this site (of which i do not claim to be one.  )

So I went over to the shop yesterday to continue working on the shirasaya I was making for a sword I am polishing; as I grabbed a clamp on the work bench, there was a sudden scrambling near my elbow. As I quickly looked and stepped back, I saw a rather large rat climbing out of the parts bin on the bench!  In the hasty search for a weapon, some moments were lost and the rat disappeared  It is probably a good thing I did not even think about the sword close at hand. Later I realized that the previous night I had covered the work with 2 microfiber towels, which had disappeared...I found one under the work bench. I think the rat hauled them off to make a nest.

If I see him today, I have something for him......

Circuit board etchant/ferric chloride is commonly used; Radio Shack used to carry it.

Mental geometry is not my thing apparently; Looking again, I think the issue is lack of a wedge, not the spring orientation.

Reverse your spring 180 degrees and try it again; it is possible you might be missing a wedge, but the spring needs to be rearranged first.

If you are running it without doors it will not get hot; you have way more opening than needed for good burn, plus it will oxidize your stock.

When cutting stone to size, a one hand sledge can be used to strike the mason hammer, thus the signs of that kind of usage.

Seems like it would be useful for lapping, sanding knives and chisels, and leather work; I have a granite tombstone that was unclaimed for similar work. Price seems good.

I have a connection in Hawaii; just need to get it worked out on this end and have a secure place for them, do not want them to get rustled or poached.

I was up in Koke'e on Kauai some years ago when we came to a downed koa tree across the road. When we checked it out, there was a hive with honey in the tree, but the bees were not cooperative. Man that smelled awesome.
