  1. YouTube - Welding The Big Ring !! Just came across this video and found it very interesting. Not sure if its been seen here yet.
  2. Glenn, Thanks for the help. I'm still trying to find my way around the site. Hate to admit it but I thought Tools refered to Tools as in Tools. My bust.
  3. Neal, I appreciate you getting back to me and thanks for the website. Sounds like it will be worth the drive.
  4. Wondering if anyone familiar with the Southern Blacksmith Conference that is being held in Madison Ga. around the middle of May? I"m wondering if it is worth the drive for me, which I'm guessing will be about 15 hrs. I would hope to see some good Demos and maybe find a few items from the tailgaters. Joe
  5. I recently picked up a Champion 400 hand cranked blower. When I separated the 2 sides on the fan section to clean it up, it was so gummed up with dirt and grease that I couldn't tell if there had been a gasket between the 2 sections. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a gasket or some type of seal between the sections? Also Can anyone advise me about what weight oil I should use and how full the gear box should be? Thanks
  6. Mike, Did you order the Refflinghaus from Dick Niefeld at Shady Grove Forge? and if you don't mind me asking, which model did you order? Dief, Thanks for the Rathole link. I really had no idea how many choices there were when it came to choosing a anvil.
  7. Mike, the 275 peddinghaus is one of the anvils I'm looking at. Appreciate the feedback. Son of blugrass, thanks for the link. Some very helpful info there.
  8. I currently have a 70lb farriers anvil but am interested in purchasing a larger 200-300lb Blacksmith anvil. For now I'll probably buy something new since I'm not totally sure what to look for in a used anvil. Hoping to get some input from some of the more experienced members on what style and what brand I should be considering. I've checked around on the internet and saw Peddinghaus, Refflinghaus, Kohlswa and Euroanvil. I see several different styles such as double horns, side shelves. Peddinghaus is forged and it appears the others are cast. I'd appreciate any advice I could get. Thanks

    Intro

Hello everyone. My name is Joe. I have a interest in Blacksmithing but am by no stretch of the imagination a Blacksmith. I've been checking around the internet and came across this site which is a great source of information. I've done some Farrier work in the past but that was about 25 years ago. Having recently retired I was going through my old tools and and found a rekindled interest in banging on some metal. I've got my old 70lb farriers anvil and a couple of rounding hammers so i'll probably be in the market for a larger anvil and a forge. I've been checking the net for anvils and didn't realize how many styles and mfgs there were. Kinda info overload. But i've always found that getting the "stuff" is half the fun. I guess for awhile I'll be asking more questions than contributing any answers on this forum.
