  1. The 6 in. round is free. The steel for the main frame and base isn't but might be obtained at a very attractive price and I would rather purchase the correct sizes than not. Specifically what do the plans call for regarding the base plate and the length and thickness for the 5 in. square main frame ? Still haven't received my plans yet and Clay is only one state away from me. What's up with that ?
  2. Can anyone forward me the specs on the major structural steel components listed in Clays plans ? I sent off for plans (2 weeks ago)and haven't received them yet but it looks like I have a promising lead on materials. I don't want to wait around and let them disappear. Specifically the base plate and the size and length of square tube required. I think I found a freebie 6 in. round.....yippee ! Thanks much in advance, KB
  3. Sam, when I mentioned the 1/2 in. plates I was referring to the very bottom base plate. I'm just not sure welding one 1/2 in. plate on top of another is a good idea.
  4. I have some 6 X 18 X 1/2 in. thick plates. I was thinking of welding them together to make a 24 x 24 x 1 inch thick base. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I may just have to formulate my own method as suggested. Great looking hammer Dodge.
  5. I have ordered plans from Clay and I am wondering if anyone in or around Georgia that knows where I might obtain a 6 inch round x 32 in. to 36 in. long solid stock for the anvil ? The best price I have found is in Gainesville GA for 300.00 and that is just too much at the present. Living in Atl you would think I could find an old railroad car axle or carpet roller but I haven't succeeded yet. I even made a pretty fair effort while I was up in Chattanooga.
