  1. thanks for the reply Chad. I think someone has done repair on the top plate. It has a pritchel hole and 1" hardy hole. I'll try and get some pics up. Randy
  2. Finally found an anvil. Anybody heard of G E M brand? haven't found any other markings.It's probably about 80# or so. It should do me fine for starting out making hooks and twists in square and round stock 1/2" and below. Thanks Randy
  3. I have had a piece of metal inmy eye and went a couple of days. Got it out and had a rust ring and the eye doc I went to drilled out the rust ring, thought it wasn't deep and it healed fine with no discoloration.
  4. on the ninth day of christmas my true love gave to me, nine buckets of coal, eight farriers shoeing, seven steel punches, six paying customers, five brand new filessssss, four hammers swinging, three golden tong rings, two swage blocks for forming and a anvil on a big ole stump.

  10. mite5255, Nice set up. I have a work table that I'm converting, I have not built my firepot yet. What is the size of the bottom plate and the size of the top opening of your firepot? Also, how deep is it? Thanks, Randy

  13. I'm in no hurry. I'm still building my forge and looking for a anvil and some tongs to start with. I'll add it to my spring steel collection for later use. The piece was about 12' long with about a 4" round loop bent on one end and a 2 prong fork bent at a 90 on the other. The fork end was forge welded. I had to cut it to fit in the jeep to get it home.   14. I got an old tool from a sawmill a friend gave me. It is wrought iron, about 5/8" to 3/4" round. What is it good for as far as making stuff? I'm new to blacksmithing and don't want to practice on it if it is worth using for a nice project. I have 4 pieces about 3' long. Any ideas what to do with it? Thanks, Randy

  16. Where is the best place online to buy tools such as wolf jaw tongs, hammers, punches and such? I like the look of the OC wolf jaw tongs, what size for 1/4" to 3/8" round and square stock, any opinions welcome as I am new to blacksmithing. Thanks, Randy
