I couldn't resist, they had 1 more diamond in the rough and 1 semi polished on both ends only. I took the rough cut. MobileMe Gallery Hit the bottom slideshow button for a full view. It is stamped 32. The weight is .903 oz.
He also had new Pexto tinner hammers and new blacksmithing tongs. I was showing interest in a Johnson Gas oven, #121, 1 used, 1 new. Are Pexto hammers still made? It surely felt good in the hand.

Unit is buried, probably came from a school, he is asking $500. Is it fair. I believe our shop has a 1" copper line feeding to the bldg.
I have no exp. smithing, just sort of looking at equipment options.

Good point on holding long stock in a leg vise. I told my wife last night that I was interested in smithing and the price of a Trip Hammer. She gave me an evil eye and said "no one does that anymore".
See you all at the next quilting B.
That is right, vice, not vise. I don't recall ever using it, someone must have donated it. Will clean it up in anticipation of having a forge some day.
With a vise like this, I would not need a leg vise, correct?

Compressors are expensive to run, based on my sandblasting experience. Which is why I went to a 365 cfm diesel. Now all sold but still have one comp. left, forgot the cfm 30 to 60 I would say, cfm. I will sell it, elec relay(about 20" wide by 5' tall). Also have a starting panel relay that slow starts the motor in 3 steps. to save on the start up load costs.
True bentiron, as I have experienced the results of other hammers. The store did have one of 3 that was polished better than what I did. I do have 3 Japanese wet stones that should give me good results.
I bought it because it looked unique without the intension of using it for a specific purpose. Now that I see the Hanfi hammers, I am tempted to get a few.
My interest is a result of not finding a copper bracelet locally for the benefits of reducing arthritis pain. So i pounded out what I needed and am just digging deeper into this world.
It is done. Ran all parts thru a new 320 grit 6" wide belt sander, love that machine. The bottom of the RR beam is useful.
I like the reversible stainless horn. LOL
I thought it over, offered $150 and was voted out of the barn. So's I whipped a homegrown deluxe with a stainless reversible horn. Will post pics soon.
I was waiting for pics of a $100 vulcan, when his pics came thru, I thought it was it.
I am new here, just joined last week. I never seemed to need an anvil in my shop. Used ones of any size are hard to find on Craigs.
I gathered today a few items that I think will work for a jewelers anvil by welding the components I have selected and then place the 2" sq. tubing in a vise. I don't think I will need a stand.
I have been using the flat on a Loews Wilton vise.
I will weld 4 separate shapes to each corner of the larger sq. tube.

I found it yesterday, 1 of 3 at an industrial supply in Cleveland, $8. I assume it is cast.
I spent a few minutes on a belt sander today to polish it partially. It gets hot rapidly and stays that way for awhile.

Hello
I am new here and seem to be interested in blacksmithing. I have no tools at the moment but pounding out some copper has started me to look around.
These pics are from a private farm museum in a tinners shed. MobileMe Gallery
I would like to find an anvil. I do have some miniature RR track about 2" high that i might prepare for that purpose.
