divermike Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I decided to make a new sign from a lot of black walnut I picked up at an auction last year, I have been missing my woodshop, it has suffered since I took up smithing, so I got busy, here is the wood portion, roughed out. I could use some design suggestions for the hanging frame, should any of you be so inclined, I'm thinking 2 hangers.... Quote
Old South Creations Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Nice sign! Thanks for sharing. I like the old school look. I've been neglecting my woodworking as well. I would love to see the finished product. Quote
Jeff Bly Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 So how did that sign come out? I'm curious. Quote
divermike Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 It is still sitting where it was, as I decide what kind of structure to wrap it in, I would like some ideas, (which is why I started this thread), on what to do for hanging it, I have drawn up a design which I will post next week, but I'm hoping to get a number of ideas, prior to the actual build. I'd like to use traditional joinery, tenons, collars and rivets. Some scroll work perhaps. Quote
Jeff Bly Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 suspend it by two chains (one on each side) from flat stock with a 90 degree bend with scroll work joining the 90 degree angle. That's my take on it anyway. Quote
Jeff Bly Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Maybe an anvil the same size and shape of your cut out on top of the angled flatstock next to the scroll work? Quote
