DavidBrandow
Up until now, I've just been using boiled linseed oil, but I wanted to get some beeswax and start using that as well. What I don't know, however, is how much beeswax I'm likely to use. For an hobbyist, how much am I likely to go through, ballpark?
P. Bedard
I guess it all depends on how much stuff you produce. I usually buy a candle or two for small pieces and they last me quite a while. Remember, you're not soaking the hot iron in the stuff, just letting it soak into the steel while the piece is too hot to touch.
Frosty
A little goes a long ways, 1 lb. should last you a year or better unless you're doing a railing or something big or doing a lot of production. Just hold the piece up and touch the wax to it, if it smokes much let it cool till the wax melts with just a little smoke. It'll be very fluid and coat well. Let it cool till the wax begins to set, the sheen will change, and wipe it off with a cotton rag. Always use the same rag. After a while you'll be able to just wipe small pieces down with the rag to finish them. (hot of course) Frosty
