Sam Thompson
Hi, An old customer has just given me a pair of those shears wit 'wavy' edges to sharpen. They appear to be hollow-ground. Does anyone know how to do this? Sam
HWooldridge
You may have to sharpen on the inside of the blade (the side opposite the bevel) and try to raise an edge from one side only. However, if too much is removed, you'll also have to reset the pivot surfaces where the blades are hinged. If it were me, I'd do it on a belt sander - a file or stone might be a bit laborious; although a stone might well be sufficient if the edge is not too bad. Steve Sells
hollow ground is from using the contact wheel.
Sam Thompson
The cutting 'corner' has rounded, I am assuming that, if there is enough hollow left on the inside of the blade I can dress the top edge in the same way as a straight pair. Steve Sells
there are always Files. slower than a machine, but less costly to get if you don't need it a lot.
Sam Thompson
Yes, thanks for the help. I usually use a very fine linishing disc for this kind of thing. It's possible to get a hollow effect by using a 9'' cutting disc at an acute angle. It's the waviness that's throwing me.
