aametalmaster Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Maybe some of you already knew this tip. I bought some small SHCS and they were about 1/8" too long. So i made up a small sleeve and slipped the bolt thru the hole and put a nut on. After it was tightened i chucked it up and cut it with my lathe tool, then touched with a file. It left a perfect thread that screwed in my project nicely and my fingers didn't get burned using a grinder...Bob Quote
petersenj20 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 That certainly works if you have a lathe. I just thread a nut down to the cut point, clamp in a vice and cut with a hacksaw. Sometimes put another nut on the other side of the saw blade for stability. Once cut through remove the first nut to "chase" the threads. Quote
mcraigl Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Or just zip 'em off with a slitter wheel, and chamfer the cut edge on the belt grinder... Quote
