larrynjr
I don't see any identifying marks on it, it looks like a generic chinese made cross peen hammer. very similar to my first hammer. I would suggest radiusing the edges before using it much. You'll get fewer sharp dings in your projects that way.
ironrosefarms
The proportions are off from the chinese hammers I have and sometimes use. How about some other pictures, is the squiggle line on the side a mark or what? James

keykeeper
I've seen that mark on some tools I have, but the name of the company escapes me. If that's the same mark, that company was making hammers in the early 1900's. Should make for some fine forging!! Merry Christmas!
ironrosefarms
Does it look like the mark was stamped in? Very interesting indeed... And the fact your wife is fueling your "habit" is great! I guess it is stamped as Key Keeper beat my post and says he recognizes the mark... If you fear using it send it on over to Indiana and I'll try it out for ya! James Edited December 25, 2008 by ironrosefarms
keykeeper
Ah, yes, there was a Charles Hall Co. that used a mark of an H in a shield. I know they made mechanics tools, so maybe made that hammer as well. There's also another company that made striking tools, but their mark was a "K" and some other letters in a shield. Anyway, go ahead and send it to James over at ironrosefarms, and when he's finished testing it, he can send it to me for a second opinion. LOL:D
texasalterna
yea this mark is definately stamped and theres another mark thats stamped but its hard to make out it may be a crown or something. she also got me 2 more hammers and they all look very old. divermike
It looks a great deal like a hammer I got from a now defunct railroad repair shop, was used by the smiths for general purposes, just go for the belt grinder, touch it up a bit, and great googly moogly, you should be a forgin in no time.
