Frosty Posted November 11, 2008 Share Posted November 11, 2008 1095 is etches dark in that combo, no nickle in it. Strapping is generally lower C and will etch darker than 1095. Generally the higher the C content the less it etches and the more polish it takes afterwards. Alloying metals like nickle and chrome inhibit the etch and take a better polish.
