June 5Jun 5 From a Facebook post by Glenn Gilmore:“It is with great sadness that I let you all know that James “Hoss” Batson passed away about 1:30 pm on June 5, 2026. He was 90 years young. He and I went back to 1980 when we met at a Francis Whitaker workshop and were the best of friends ever since then. We both attended the First Yellin Workshop in Philly and his wonderful wife Barbara was there with us. He and one of our other great friends Tommy McNabb taught me all about hydraulic forging presses. He was large in the American Bladesmith Society before many of you people reading this were even forging. He will be missed by many and I hope all of you keep his wife Barbara and his family in your thoughts and prayers. I’m going to get back to forging now because that’s what he would want me to do. RIP Hoss………………….”
