December 6, 2025Dec 6 I've read what I can of how to make one but nothing ever felt definitive. Ive seen that some folks get lost in the weeds with volume calculations to number of burner ports and some that just kinda built one. Im sure some kind of figuring would be needed to at least decide how many ports are desired but would one REALLY need to do calculus to build one? Or am I just getting lost in the sauce?
December 6, 2025Dec 6 That's the problem trying to learn things from social media, too many folks just want to see their names in print so print how tos about things they're almost completely ignorant of. I built several test burners using a steel manifold with 2x2 wooden burner blocks that were secured with a couple screws. My departure point were enough nozzle orifices to equal the area of a 3/4" T burner using the short cut formula, .7854 D squared which is IIRC 8-9 decimal places the same as using pi r sq. After half a dozen, maybe ten wooden burner blocks I started casting them from a water setting refractory using crayons as cores for the burner outlets. It went much faster after that, the nozzlets being much smoother allowed a more laminar flow so the flames were better formed and a little tweaking and I had a couple functional ribbon burners. I didn't need a diffuser to evenly distribute the fuel air mix after I put the T burner centered on the side of the plenum so the main flow dispersed against the far wall. The flames were still a little longer in the center but good enough to make a functional burner. Best of all I didn't need to make another T inducer I just unscrewed one of another forge.
