I'm looking at this anvil and waiting for the guy to reply with more info, any idea what type it it is? And what it might be worth?

It looks like a Vulcan to me too.

I've never seen a Vulcan with the pritchel hole in the center of the heel. The ones I've seen have all been off to the side of the heel.

I sold a 150 pound Vulcan for $180 a few months ago.

Thank's thats what I need to know.Any marks that I can look for that would confirm that it is a Vulcan?

Vulcans usually have a raised oval trademark on the side with an arm and hammer on it in relief. They often have a weight designation cast in down by the foot. IIRC it's generally the weight of the anvil divided by 10 so for a 100# anvil it would be 10, 200#--20.

Vulcans are a quiet anvil and so good for city and suburban smiths. However they are not as high a quality anvil as as built up anvil or even a Fisher that is a cast iron anvil with a steel face as is the Vulcan and so should sell at a cheaper rate than other anvils that are not cast iron. Note that to most people an anvil is an anvil and they do not know anything about the quality of them and so may want a top tier price for a lower tier anvil.

So the $100 he's asking is close to what the true value of it is.I'm going to be near where it is this weekend,so I'll probably go ahead and look at it.At least now I know a little about what I'll be looking at.
