Shane FC
I finished cleaning up the Indian Chief post vise, gave it a coat of Watco Danish Oil and added a portable stand. Now it’s time to put it to work!
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Looks good to go. The only suggestion I have is to make an extension at the floor, to stand on when twisting steel. It will keep the vise from spinning around. The plate like on the top should work. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sails. Shane FC
Irondragon - Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered adding a plate to the bottom, but I want to see how bad the twisting issue is before I go that route. All of the post vises I have used / had in the past were mounted to solid benches. I am going for portable on this one.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
It would be easy to make a plate that will attach to the base and be removable so it will still be portable. That is what I had to do with this one. The base is an old flywheel and the base can be pined to soft ground or when on a hard surface, I have a hoop to stand on made out of 1/4 round stock with the ends turned up that fit into the holes. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sails.
