February 26, 20233 yr I'm currently using a 1 burner Simon forge lined with a k-wool blanket with coating supplied by the manufacturer and would like to build a brick forge. No need for forge welding. I Forge mostly ornamental. Can my new forge be built without blanket installation. I don't want to deal with the particle issue.
February 26, 20233 yr You would do very well to choose Morgan k27 (use rated to 2700 F) insulating firebricks; these bricks have many insulating air voids, but are much sturdier than the old 2300 F insulating bricks, which were standard up until recent years. You will want to protect their (flame facing) inner surfaces with Plistix 900. These Morgan bricks will supply equal insulation to 2" thick blanket. You can use a cheap imported, or worn out, hole saw to drill a hole for your burner to set in. The brick is equally easy to saw to length with old worn out tools.
