Transformer Lames for Pattern Welding

Has anyone used transformer lames for LC layers in a billet?   We're planning a forge welding day and making a couple of billets from 1"+ bandsaw blade  and transformer lames that are quite thin and I was wondering if anyone had played around with that mix before.  I plan to do a San Mai with an old Black Diamond, 1.2% C, file for the center; so I don't need to worry about the carbon content for the edge.  IIRC Transformer Lame is often very low C and high Si (1-4%).

I wish I could get some of the high nickel permalloy lames for the bright  layers. (80% Ni, 20% Fe).
