Flynn
This one came up at auction near me... Sadly I only have these pics to go on. Any guesses as to the maker? Thanks in advance!
ThomasPowers
Squat: I'd guess one of the 200+ English anvil makers; I wonder if that pritchel hole was drilled sometime after, looks too pristine. It should ring if tapped . If it does and has a good result from the ball bearing test it's a good anvil for smithing. If it doesn't have a good result then it's a bad anvil for smithing no matter WHO made it!
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
They say how much it weighs? Like Thomas said, looks English and many makers copied the Mouse Hole anvil after they opened their own forge.
Flynn
No, I've got no info on it except for the photos. One educated friend commented that the placement of the pritchel hole and other features look similar to a Powell or pre-1852 Peter Wright. There's over a week left on the auction, we'll see if the price is right. :) Thanks folks!
ThomasPowers
If it's an online auction most of the price increments will be in the last few minutes, especially by people using sniping programs. The TPAAAT is a better way to find anvils in my not humble at all opinion!
Flynn
I agree completely, Mr. Powers! I am a loyal follower of the TPAAAT and use it consistently. I've found a number of wonderful anvils with it, although I do supplement it with online shopping. I've had some luck both ways.
