Trombosenpeter
Hello I recently bought a new anvil. While cleaning the anvil, I found these inscriptions. However, I can't assign them and the internet didn't help either. Can someone please help me? What could help: I bought the anvil in Switzerland. Thank you very much in advance. ThomasPowers
How much does it weight? The date on it? I see that it was modified for doing riveting of a pretty good size.
Trombosenpeter
The thing is that I know very little about this anvil. If the number in the bottom right is the weight, then that would be 113 kg. Also the number in the middle (187) could be the weight in lb. If not, I would guess about 100 kg. The number at the bottom left (1806) could be the year.
ThomasPowers
A bathroom scale will generally handle up to 250 pounds---or even more. Getting a good weight will help you decide which set of numbers are what. (Just don't drop it on the scale!) The central hardy hole means it's probably not French. I don't know if Switzerland had an anvil industry back in 1806. Does the flour trick help any with the letters? A U ? ? ? If the ball bearing test is good then it'[s a good anvil no matter who made it!
