Holzkohle
It seems as though I have developed another addiction. It all started with a a camper and then I decided to cook the primary meal each day using cast iron cookware. I only had a #10 camp oven given to me about 30 years ago by an army buddy. Now I have the preverbial ton of cast iron. A couple of months ago when looking for CI cookware, I found a rusty old anvil. After consulting with an aspiring blacksmith about it's value, I bought it. It has been identified as a Haye-Budden farriers anvil. With the help(mostly on his part) of a blacksmith/machinist neighbor, I now have a forge and am having fun trying to create useful items. And since I am associated with a living history group focusing on the 1840 time frame, I am trying to produce items that would be appropriate to that period. I am looking forward to learning much from this forum. Jerry

ironrosefarms
Unlike many other addictions there is no 12 step program for this one... Which for most of us is a good thing! As for the cast iron, I have had to rebuild all the lower kitchen cabinets in my home to support the weight of our cast iron cooking wares, the old cabinet bottoms gave out from the weight... Finnr
Ya mean there is cookware that isn't cast iron? Glad to have you here. As has been said, there is no cure for Smithing fever, but it can be controlled by large doses of hot steel and ringing hammers. 6013
My ears ring, my anvil rings, and now I have to worry about ringing hammers? Can you get a hammer with an unlisted number?
