Donal Harris
How difficult would it be to convert my saw to one that cuts wood and mild steel? Evidently when new, you could purchase an option to make your saw able to cut both wood and steel. What parts would I need to find? The photo is of a gearbox from a wood/metal saw. JHCC
The important thing is to reduce the blade speed: a metal-cutting bandsaw should run at about a tenth of the speed of a wood-cutting saw. The gearbox is a cool way of doing this, but you can also use a jackshaft and reducing pulleys to get the same effect.
