July 22, 200817 yr Most of the metals suppliers will have that info readily available, either on the 'net or in sales literature. Carpenter, Crucible and Uddeholm come to mind - there are others. Look for 440C as a common alloy.
July 23, 200817 yr Hi Eric! I don't know how familiar you are with stainless steels, but for the most part its going to require you owning a digitally controlled heat treat oven in order to do the job properly. Many of the time/temp cycles required are simply not achievable any other way. I have successfully heat treated S30V without one, but it was a very long experimenting process, and I wrecked a few hundred dollars worth of the steel before I figured it out. Crucible Service Center on the net provides a lot of good information in the area your seeking.
July 23, 200817 yr The ASM puts out a large book on heat treating that includes more than just knife grade stainlesses as heat treating is also used to increase corrosion resistance in some alloys. You didn't mention what you need it for...
July 24, 200817 yr Author I was just wonder because i was thinks of using it for blades, but all i have is a gas forge. It sounds like it will be to hold temps for the time need. Eric Knight
