George N. M.
Chemically, fly ash should be about the same as clinker produced in a coal forge but it is much finer. Coal is pulverized to the point where it reacts more like a liquid before it is blown into the burn area of a power plant furnace and the fly ash is recovered in long cloth bags before it can escape up the chimney. So, it is a very fine powder. You'd have to do a lot of grinding and mortar and pestle work to get clinker as fine as fly ash. One of the attributes of both good forge coal and good power generation coal is a low ash content. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
