Vpross
Hi everyone. I’m new here and to forging. I just got my first anvil shaped anvil this week. I’m pretty excited to use the real thing, not that I don’t love my 275# hydraulic hammer head (I think), but it’s so hard it may make me deaf. The new (to me) one has no descernable markings. I was hopeful that one of you could share your insight, as I have next to none. Thanks ahead of time. Edited February 16, 2019 by Mod30 resize large photos. Glenn
Anything is better than that 5 gallon plastic bucket. Find a proper and safe anvil stand. Then look for a pair of steel toed boots. (grin) What is the weight of the anvil? Congratulations, and welcome to IForgeIron. To get the most from the site READ THIS FIRST

Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
A picture of the bottom of the base might shed some light as to the manufacture of it. There were many companies making London pattern anvils here in the U.S. and abroad. I hope you have read about how grinding, milling and welding on the hardened face (looks like someone has already ground some) will remove decades of usefulness from an anvil. How is the rebound & ring?
