JHCC
Made an anvil block over the weekend that combined sledgehammer striking to upset the block in the portable hole and treadle work to square up the sides of the block. First time I'd used the flatter with the treadle, and it worked fantastically well. I will say that one of the down-sides to having the treadle hammer set up with my anvil is that it presents significant limitations on tooling: everything needs to have some kind of saddle to fit over the anvil. If I had a stand-alone TH, I would definitely incorporate some kind of hardy hole or other mounting system for switching out fullers, swages, and other dies. MilwaukeeJon
JHCC, what size was the stock, what kind of steel, and what was the finished size?
JHCC
It’s from a 1-3/8” axle. The stem was squared in the gate-arm guillotine: And the top was upset with a 7/8” adapter in the portable hole: The finished block is 2-1/8”w x 2-3/8”d x 3/4”h. (Still needs a bit of grinding.) The stem seems longer than I remember forging. I think I may have extruded it down the hardy hole somewhat.
