Rond
Would someone please recommend a couple of good DVDs which show the basics of forging knives. I have purchased some but they turned out to be either way above my expertise or so poorly done they were useless. I have just started forging and want to learn the basics right. Thank You Ron

trying-it
Ron, a mapquest search shows that the distance between us is: Total Estimated Time: 2.0 hours 40 minutes Total Estimated Distance: 154.89 miles You are more than welcome to visit anytime! I am NO expert bladesmith, but I think I can get you started in some of the right directions. Stan
Rich Hale
Ron the best thing you can do now is learn the basics of smithing in general the opening page item called getting started would be a good beggining. Blades are better put off until you learn how metal moves under a hammer and the muscle memory skills required to do what it is on anything you wish to forge. Chuck Richards
Ed Caffrey's basic bladesmithing is a great starter DVD. Also Wayne Goddards How to Forge a Cable Damascus knife, though it does cover forge welding it does cover the basics too.

Don A
Tim Lively's is really good:Knifemaking Video DVD It comes from the "neo-tribal" perspective; charcoal, unplugged, etc., but he moves real slow on the forging technique, so you do learn a lot from it.
