Outlaw Farms
So... an oddball question... I saw this Trenton listed in an auction down the road. Somehow, I was the only person truly interested in it so it came home with me. I started cleaning all the crud off to get a better look at it and the makers mark has been doubled with 2 completely different names and/or symbols. Also, the person that stamped the serial number must have been drunk that day... The "3" is way off. I took tons of pics from different angles, different lighting, coloring, etc. and the close up is the best one of the makers mark. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
RobS
Trenton made anvils for many hardware stores and stamped them with brands for those stores. Lakeside was the Montgomery Ward brand. AIA mentions that many Trentons were double stamped with Trenton and the store brand. Your serial number looks to be 1919 according to AIA. Outlaw Farms
Thanks Rob, I figured someone out there would take one look at it and know what the second stamp was. I've been looking at it for 3 days and couldn't figure it out for the life of me. With the context you provided, I can now clearly see that it is indeed a Lakeside. Thanks for the help, Chris
