  1. Thanks Rob, I figured someone out there would take one look at it and know what the second stamp was. I've been looking at it for 3 days and couldn't figure it out for the life of me. With the context you provided, I can now clearly see that it is indeed a Lakeside. Thanks for the help, Chris
  2. So... an oddball question... I saw this Trenton listed in an auction down the road. Somehow, I was the only person truly interested in it so it came home with me. I started cleaning all the crud off to get a better look at it and the makers mark has been doubled with 2 completely different names and/or symbols. Also, the person that stamped the serial number must have been drunk that day... The "3" is way off. I took tons of pics from different angles, different lighting, coloring, etc. and the close up is the best one of the makers mark. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
  3. I've been a lurker for a while and decided I should probably go ahead and sign up. Smithing is a new hobby for me but am by no means a virgin when it comes to working metal. I learned to machine in H.S. a year or 20 back. My uncle was a farrier that I learned basic metal working from when I was a kid. I am also a licensed A&P mechanic. And probably most important from a practical experience perspective, I farm and have livestock. Unfortunately, as we all know; everything always breaks down during normal business hours, on a weekday, that happens to be sunny with only a light breeze and right in front of the shop. I am already aware of the CSMA in Haysville and plan to start attending a meeting here and there. But, if there are any smiths north of Wichita, I would be honored to meet some new friends closer to my neck of the woods so to speak. And, if anyone has any leads on tools around the area, I would be much appreciative.
