Mooreag
First of all hello my name is Adam i currently know very little about smithing but it's something that has always interested me I joined the site two minutes ago And am in need of advice as I don't want to lose out on a good deal and on the other hand I don't want to buy boat anchor either all the research I have done has been inconclusive in my eyes so I'll ask you all I am looking to potentially buy A fisher anvil I have only seen pictures and it looks to me that there is a weld in the waist area just wondering if this was a manufacturing practice at some point or if I'm just seeing things and this is just something else any and all advice will be much appreciated
njanvilman
What looks like a weld is only where the two parts of the pattern came together in the mold. On some Fisher anvils, this is invisable, on others, it is more pronounced. But it is not a weld. The anvil was cast in one piece.
