Sam Salvati
Forged down from a 6 inch peice of 1095, 1 1/2 inch wide 3/8ths thick. A good bit of taper, I cleaned up the outline only on the grinder, all the bevels ans taper were forged in.

JDH Forge
The very same steel. It forges GREAT! That's great!... Let us know how the heat treat goes and what you plan or decide on the process.... Thanks!
Feukair
Very nice. You are a pro at forging those bevels in...
Sam Salvati
Thanks Man, you should see the actual pros though, they could pretty much polish the blade after heat treating all from a rough forged condition! I hav ground this one, i'll have some pictures up tonight.
HWooldridge
Your lines are getting better with time - that would be a great blade to carry into a dark alley at night.

Sam Salvati
HW, it got alot lighter and thinner than in the picture. Here it is all cleaned up ready for HT.
Sam Salvati
HT went OK, the whole blade was hard to heat up evenly, the hamon dips off the edge at the tip:(. That and the grind lines got a bit messed up.
Feukair
I have the same problem with heating the whole blade evenly. Mine developed a small crack, that i didn't find until one of the later stages of polishing, near the area where the blade got hottest during heat treat. I got to get me a gas powered heating setup... Clean that thing up so we can have a look see! Lt
